* log 001

Characters: Monica
Setting: School grounds, that chapel
Content: Kind of a stream of consciousness. ...Hey, this wasn't where I went to sleep!
Warnings: None, probably.

I'm dreaming.

It's a familiar dream I've had a lot of times now, and so I'm not worried or afraid. I'm walking down a long corridor with pastel pictures lighting the dark to either side of me.

...It's dark but it's really warm. Even when it feels like I should be walking through water or the wind blows, I don't feel cold or wet.

Because, see.

There's something I need to find at the end of the road.

...The voice that speaks into my heart instead of my ears is patiently and gently reminding me of this.

There's something I have to find, something that's really important, that I can see the purpose of but don't have that knowledge well enough in my grasp to really explain it.

I have to find it.

That's all.

Monica jolted awake with a gasp.

She was standing, staring at the chapel's altar, its dim lights washing it with a homey, welcoming glow. She could hear the rain lashing the windows outside, and realized that she was cold and wet.

...She'd been sleepwalking again, because of the voices.

At least she knew now--at least she understood now what she was supposed to do. Shakily, Monica sat down in the middle of the front pew.

I've gotta get it today.

Characterization memething time~!

Full Name: Monica of Bardot
Age: <strike>16</strike> 17
Sex: Female
Height: Five feet, four inches
Weight: 121 lbs.
Blood Type: B
Body Type: Average; athletic
Race: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Date of Birth: August 11

~outer personality~
facades – Largely, Monica is what she appears to be. She does tend to mask any uncertainty with bravado, though, and sometimes hides what she really feels to avoid hurting other people around her.
body language – Monica has good posture and tends to keep a square stance; she rarely if ever stands with her feet closer together than her shoulders. She commonly steeples her fingers at her ribcage or plants her hands on her hips, but she really only hides her hands from view if she’s nervous (she’ll usually be fiddling with the back of her dress or her hair tie then). Like many girls with long hair, Monica will do a prideful-hair-toss from time to time (it’s a guilty pleasure for her!); she usually lifts a fist to the level of her lips when she giggles, and will occasionally go into a full-blown Noblewoman’s Laugh.
demeanor – Monica is an open and friendly girl who most people find easy to talk to. She speaks and acts with all the bubbly enthusiasm one would expect from a girl of her age.
sense of humor – Silly things make Monica laugh, and she laughs easily. If students at Apocrypha had Internet access, you’d probably find her helpless with laughter over icanhascheeseburger at least once a day. She likes random humor more than jokes at others’ expense, and although she will laugh at dry jokes and tongue-in-cheek, she can get pretty vocal when she feels things have been taken too far.
flaws – Monica charges into things too easily and sometimes winds up in over her head because of it. She can also be a little bit too blunt when she’s not happy about something.
strengths – Still, the fact that she’s not shy about voicing her opinion is definitely a positive quality. She’s also extremely tenacious and doesn’t abandon anything she starts unless it’s been pounded into her head multiple times that the situation is hopeless (and sometimes not even then, if she’s devoted enough).
voice – Monica’s voice is almost done transitioning from treble to soprano, so although it won’t crack and squeak like a boy’s, it’s got a couple of tonal oddities. While she uses “watashi” and “anata” in formal circumstances, while speaking amongst her friends and classmates, she sticks with using “atashi” and “anta”. Monica likes music and plans on taking voice lessons at some point; she can sing reasonably well, although her voice is nowhere near as good as Nessiah’s. [Japanese voice clip download]*

~inner personality~
likes and dislikes – Every girl Monica’s age has some kind of love for cute things, and she’s no exception, but the thing she puts the most value on is friendship. She loves her country, her friends and family (even though they drive her nuts), and being able to learn at Apocrypha and be something more than just another farm girl. She doesn’t like feeling stupid or plain, and hates when her friends argue. She also hates seeing people get picked on, and doesn’t have much trust for Fantasinia even though she can’t stand the idea of racism. If she ever connects the dots, she’ll work harder on fixing that.
dreams – Monica wants to be a hero and live one of those mythological dashing lives of adventure and romance. If she does wind up with that she’ll learn it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, but she’s been raised as a nobody and wants to be anything but. So far, nothing has discouraged her from her dreams, and she’ll work doggedly towards what skills she thinks a hero needs here.
flaws – However, in truth Monica really is just a farm girl who only knows small-town life and Bronquian politics. There are still a lot of things that she doesn’t understand about the world, and things about her life that she doesn’t appreciate (like how she’s turned out so well-adjusted, as compared to so very many other people here).
mental intelligence – Monica is about average, but because she’s never had the opportunity to learn these kinds of things before, she has an avid interest in her studies. She’s terrible at algebra and sometimes has trouble keeping history straight, but likes and is good at geometry. She’s attacking rudimentary tactics and refuses to fail that class, even though she’s a bare beginner in that area.
strengths – Monica does not know when to give up, she’s charismatic, and she has common sense. Especially at a school like this one, those are things that can’t be underrated.
love – Sixteen-year-old girls can be quite prone to crushes. Monica has a violent one on Gulcasa, and even though she’s sworn up and down that she’s never having kids, she’d consider having one or two of his. She also thinks that Roswell is hot, and wonders if she could like Canaan if he’d stop being such a dumb BOY about everything. But as for real love, Monica hasn’t considered it beyond the requisite romance in a hero story. If she ever winds up in a relationship, she’ll think about it more seriously.
sexuality – One of the nice things about growing up on a farm with a billion siblings is that you’re not naïve on where babies come from. Monica is heterosexual, and very curious about what sex is like. She knows the details and has read romance novels, but having never experienced the real thing, she wants to know what it’s really like rather than anything else. Since she’s not dating anyone, though, and isn’t anywhere near close enough to any of the guys she knows, she’ll be stuck with fantasies for a while longer. (You have three guesses who stars in them, and the first two don’t count.)

~effects on personality~
history – Without her childhood surroundings, Monica would not have half her drive to be special. Setting aside the fact that she’s one of way too many siblings, her hometown was under enemy occupation for most of her life. She’s known oppression, and known what it’s like to be ignored and told she’s no good and can’t do anything, so she’s had it with that. She wants to be strong enough to make a difference, and to experience everything in life firsthand.
other people – Because of Canaan, Monica knows deep friendship and finds it easy to trust people. She’s also had someone who easily accepts everything, even her darkest secrets. However, because she’s always had him, she kind of takes this kind of thing for granted (that there always will be SOMEONE). Even now, she’s got Seth, so whether or not this changes is up to her experiences at school.
health – This is another thing Monica takes for granted. She’s always been active and has never really gotten any bad illnesses, so she doesn’t know what it’s like to really be weak. She’s broken bones and such, but she’s used to be able to do whatever she wants on her own strength, not relying on others to lift heavy things and such.

~eccentricities~
compulsive behavior – Monica doesn’t really have any in particular, other than her attraction to churches and chapels—although that’s conscious, since she likes trying to listen to the gods.
obsessions – Gulcasa, enough said! That and her fixation on being a hero.
cravings – Gulcasa, again. (/shot)
temper – Monica is pretty even-tempered, but seeing people moping around and or taking things for granted that she never had gets on her nerves, and she can get a bit sharp-tongued if this happens.
creativity – Monica isn’t the most creative person in the world—she thinks that she doesn’t really have any creativity at all. However, she does have a bit of talent in fighting and commanding; it just needs some instruction to draw out.
fears – If there’s really anything that scares Monica, it’s being a nothing her entire life, despite that she got into this school and has a chance she normally would never have gotten. She wants to be more than she is, and can’t bear the thought of failing and having to go resume her everyday life as just another peasant girl.

*Voice clips from battle; ripped by mewarrow

Monica didn't take that too kindly. Because most of the Imperial Army had been debilitated by the Royal Army and Emperor Gulcasa was still too sick from the events of St. Meriata to confront the Royal Army at the time, no one was left to defend the towns and villages from the marauding Fantasinians, and Bardot sat squarely in the way of Drominos and Flarewerk.

So Monica rallied her fellow villagers and created the Bronquian militia with the aid of her childhood friend Canaan. Despite having only minimal arms training, she and her comrades believed they could at least hold back the Royal Army until assistance could arrive from the capital. Sadly, they couldn't have been more wrong; Monica and her forces were all slaughtered by the reluctant Royal Army before either Canaan's division or the last Dragon General, Princess Emilia, could reach her.

In her profile in the Extra Contents, it is revealed that Monica is a particularly pious girl and that she rose to fight because of divine inspiration, making her a kind of Bronquian Jeanne d'Arc.

Apocrypha Backstory: Despite the fact that she was a commoner as ordinary as any--and the second of twelve children to boot--Monica of Bardot had big dreams. Seeing the way her parents worked all day, every day to provide for their oversized brood, Monica decided that she wanted anything but the life of a dull, plain farming housewife. With her best friend Canaan, she practiced basic swordsmanship in secret and dreamed about becoming a real hero for her country, maybe changing the sad state of her country for the better.

She was sad and a little bit jealous when Canaan was chosen to receive a scholarship to the Collegium, but decided to be happy for her friend--and because she remained at home, she was witness to the revival of Bronquia's spirit under their new (and quite young) Emperor, Gulcasa. When she was also offered her own partial scholarship to the Collegium awhile later, she accepted it gratefully--not only would Canaan be there, but her newly minted hero would, too!

Monica is a cheery, willful, and generally spirited young girl. Lately she's begun wondering if she might be developing feelings for Canaan, though she certainly does get starry-eyed over the new Emperor. She only has one real secret--the divine voices she's always heard since she was a small child--and that's something that only Canaan knows about. She hopes that she can find out more about them at the school, though. She takes most of her classes at Gladiara, although she also has some at Medicans and Scholastica, and hasn't yet declared herself to one of the three.

Sample Post: Shaken from her reverie by a gentle nudge in the ribs, Monica blinked and turned towards the girl she was sharing her pew with.

"Service is over, Monica--we have to leave now," the girl pointed out in hushed tones.

Monica tried not to pout. She could barely remember what the Voices had been telling her this time; it was all she could do to recall the beauty of the trance. She hated being interrupted when they were speaking to her, but...

She glanced up at the stained glass panels above the altar as she stood. Tomorrow she could always come down here again, and hear more.
